Camera Workshop Calgary Photographer

A couple of days ago I did something new to me. I taught a camera workshop on the basics of using a DSLR. One would think that being a career photographer would make it easy to “throw together” some slideshows for a workshop like this. It
was totally the opposite. I’ve been a Calgary photographer for several years now, and because of that, I know my camera intuitively. I don’t even think about what buttons I’m pushing on my camera. I’m only focused on the subject and action in front of me. I had to look up what buttons and words meant. I had to figure out a way to explain in laymens terms how to shoot in manual mode. It wasn’t as easy as I thought.

There is something to be said for stepping outside of your comfort zone and doing something new. It awakens something inside you, inspires you to go above and beyond what your day-to-day life has been like, and pushes you towards new goals. I spent weeks collecting information and jotting down notes for the class. It took days to put everything together and I spent the day before the class forcing my five year-old to pretend to be a student as I learned how to be a teacher. She gave me a thumbs up by the way 🙂 I didn’t sleep well the night before, but when the morning came, I was calm and felt prepared. And you know what? I had fun. I genuinely, had fun teaching.

I loved every minute of working with each of the 25 women who joined me at Stuthornes on Main in Nanton (who by the way, made us a delicious lunch for the day). Because I know that one can’t master a camera in a day (or at least not me), I created a Facebook page to have a community after the day was over. This is a place to post photos, ask questions, answer questions and support each other as we learn together. I would like to invite you to join the Photography Group – Loree Photography.

I’m excited to play a role as educator a little more down the road. I will be hosting more camera workshops, and I even have another cool idea up my sleeve that I’m just beginning to piece together 🙂 I invite you to contact me if you would like me to host a workshop in your area.
